## Use a Referral Code

When someone with a FrameAI account refers a friend, both get free months. It's the one time having friends in structural engineering pays off literally.

### Before you start

| Code format | `FRAMEAI-XXXXXX` — 6+ characters, all caps |
| Where to find one | A FrameAI email, a friend's referral link, or your own code in Studio |
| Account | Existing FrameAI account required (or new signup at the same time) |

### Step 1 — Get a referral code

Referral codes look like `FRAMEAI-ABC123`. They appear in:

- **FrameAI referral emails** — sent when you share your own code
- **A friend's message** — they copied it from Studio → Settings → Referrals
- **The bottom of a plan picker page** — during upgrade

### Step 2 — Go to FrameAI signup or upgrade

Navigate to either:

- `/signup` — if you are creating a new account
- `/settings/billing` — if you are upgrading an existing account

The referral code field appears near the bottom of the plan picker section.

### Step 3 — Paste the code

Paste the code exactly as shown — codes are **case-sensitive** and contain no spaces or special characters.

### Step 4 — Continue with signup or payment

After pasting the code, click **Continue** or **Subscribe**. The discount is applied immediately — no separate step, no code to remember.

### Step 5 — Confirm both credits land

You will see a green confirmation banner:
> **Referral code applied — 2 free months added to your account!**

The referrer also receives an email credit notification within 24 hours of your first paid charge.

## What you should see

A green confirmation banner:
> **Referral code applied — [X] free months added to your account!**

And a credit line on your next billing statement showing the free months applied.

## Common problems

**Code not recognised**
> Codes are case-sensitive — copy exactly as shown, including the hyphen. No spaces, no trailing characters.

**Code already used**
> Each code can only be used once per account. If your code says "already used", ask the person who gave it to you — they can share a fresh code from their Settings → Referrals page.

**Where do I find my own code?**
> Go to **Studio → Settings → Referrals**. Your personal referral code is displayed there, along with a shareable link.

**No discount shown after pasting**
> Referral codes only apply on **upgrade to a paid plan**, not on initial free trial signup. If you are in the free trial and paste a code, the discount is held and applied when you upgrade.
